Why doesnt my samsung u340 ring when i get a text message?

I have a cricket samsung u340 and it rings when i get a phone call and when i get picture messages but not when i get text messages. My settings are set to ring when i get any type of message though. Is my phone broken? I don't have a manual for it either. Please help!Why doesnt my samsung u340 ring when i get a text message?I would reset my phone and all the original setting will be available.
