Use of a Samsung i-325 phone from the USA overseas with a sim card from overseas provider?

I will be traveling overseas in August. I have a Samsung i-325 cell phone through Sprint. My cell phone will work overseas through Sprint, but, it is very expensive to use. If I were to buy a sim card from a provider overseas, would my phone still work over there?
